Robbie Coltrane is a Scottish actor and author. He is best known for his roles as Hagrid in the Harry Potter film series and as Valentin Zukovsky in the James Bond films GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough. He has also appeared in the films Trainspotting, The Fifth Element, and From Russia with Love.
Coltrane was born in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, the son of Jean, a housewife, and Ian Coltrane, a plumber. He was educated at Glenalmond College, an independent school in Perthshire. He then studied art and design at Glasgow School of Art. He is a fan of the Scottish football team Rangers F.C. Coltrane has appeared in over 50 films and television programmes.
His first film appearance was in the 1981 film An American Werewolf in London. He has also appeared in the films Nuns on the Run, The World Is Not Enough, and From Russia with Love. He has also appeared in the television programmes Taggart, Cracker, and Blackadder.

It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Robbie Coltrane, an immensely talented actor and a wonderful man. Robbie first came to public attention in the early 1980s with his role as the lovable rogue Harry Potter in the TV series Cracker. He went on to star in a number of films including The World Is Not Enough, The Hobbit and the Harry Potter franchise. Robbie was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
